Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="graphical" xml:lang="en"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p>Asymmetric intramolecular direct hydroarylation of α‐ketoamides gives various optically active 3‐substituted 3‐hydroxy‐2‐oxindoles in high yields with complete regioselectivity and high enantioselectivities. As shown by Y. Yamamoto et al. in their Communication on <ext-link ext-link-type="doi" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">page 2658 ff.</ext-link> this reaction is realized by the use of an asymmetric cationic iridium complex formed in situ, which provides enantioselective direct addition at the more hindered <italic>ortho</italic> CH bond to a carbonyl group.<boxed-text content-type="graphic" position="anchor" orientation="portrait"><graphic position="anchor" mimetype="image" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgg4srjs5c4" orientation="portrait" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" /></boxed-text></p> </abstract>
