Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="graphical" xml:lang="en" id="adma201304696-abs-0001"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p> <bold>The discovery of perfectly ordered 3D mesoporous protein/silica structure</bold> in the axial filament of the marine sponge <italic>Monorhaphis chuni</italic> is reported. The structure belongs to body‐centered tetragonal symmetry system (<italic>a</italic> = 9.88 nm, <italic>c</italic> = 10.83 nm) and comprises interconnecting lattices of protein and silica, templated by the self‐assembled, enzymatically active protein‐silicatein, whose primary function is the precipitation of silica. <boxed-text content-type="graphic" position="anchor" orientation="portrait"><graphic position="anchor" mimetype="image" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgg4sr6prw8" orientation="portrait" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" /></boxed-text></p> </abstract>
