Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="main" xml:lang="en"> <title>Abstract</title> <p>Iodotrimethylplatinum(IV) forms the complexes [PtMe₃L₂I] [L = 4‐dimethylaminopyridine (4‐DMAP), 3‐bromopyridine (3‐BrPy), and 4‐cyanopyridine (4‐CNPy)] in good yield on treatment with substituted pyridines. The ¹H NMR spectrum of [PtMe₃(4‐DMAP)₂I] (<bold>1</bold>) in CDCl₃ shows no dissociation of the monomeric unit, while both the complexes [PtMe₃(3‐BrPy)₂I] (<bold>2</bold>) and [PtMe₃(4‐CNPy)₂I] (<bold>3</bold>) undergo dissociation in CDCl₃ to a different extent to form the dimeric complexes [{PtMe₃(3‐BrPy)I}₂] and [{PtMe₃(4‐CNPy)I}₂], respectively. The crystal structures of <bold>1</bold> and <bold>2</bold> were determined to investigate the binding situation of these mononuclear trimethylplatinum(IV) complexes of pyridines.</p> </abstract>
