- <abstract abstract-type="synopsis" xml:lang="en" id="embr201337966-abs-0002"> <title>Synopsis</title> <p> <boxed-text content-type="graphic" id="embr201337966-blkfxd-0001" position="anchor" orientation="portrait"> <graphic position="anchor" mimetype="image" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgg4sngnw65" orientation="portrait" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" /> </boxed-text> </p> <p>This report provides evidence that loss of the SCF<sup>Slimb</sup> E3 ubiquitin ligase complex as well as hyperactivation of Akt lead to neuroblast overgrowth and defects in asymmetric cell division. Slimb, the F‐box protein of the SCF complex, associates with Akt in a protein complex, and SCF<sup>Slimb</sup> acts through SAK and Akt to inhibit neuroblast overgrowth.</p> <p> <list id="embr201337966-list-0001" list-type="bullet"> <list-item> <p>The SCF<sup>S</sup><sup>limb</sup> E3 ubiquitin ligase inhibits neuroblast (NB) overgrowth and regulates asymmetric division of NBs.</p> </list-item> <list-item> <p>The NB overgrowth phenotype in the absence of SCF<sup>S</sup><sup>limb</sup> is similar to what is seen in conditions of AKT hyperactivation.</p> </list-item> <list-item> <p>The F‐box protein Slimb associates with AKT and regulates NB overgrowth via SAK and AKT.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </abstract>
