<abstract abstract-type="graphical" xml:lang="en"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p> <bold>The construction</bold> of an artificial riboswitch is based on a ligand–RNA pair without any molecular biology‐based selection processes. The ligand selectively and significantly stabilized an RNA duplex containing an r(XGG)/r(XGG) sequence (X=U, A, G). The integration of the ligand‐binding sequences into the 5′‐untranslated region of mRNA provided an artificial riboswitch that was responsive to <italic>Z</italic>‐NCTS.<boxed-text content-type="graphic" position="anchor" orientation="portrait"><graphic position="anchor" mimetype="image" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgg37r9mjvk" orientation="portrait" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" /></boxed-text></p> </abstract>
