<abstract abstract-type="graphical" xml:lang="en"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p> <italic> <bold>Even 80 years after</bold> </italic> the elucidation of the structure of <sc>L</sc>‐threo‐ascorbic acid (vitamin C), the chemistry of this reactive reducing carbohydrate remains exciting. In their Communication on <ext-link ext-link-type="doi" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">page 4887 ff., </ext-link> M. A. Glomb and M.
