- <abstract abstract-type="graphical" xml:lang="en"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p> <bold>A 'Phen'atic</bold>: The title reaction proceeds in the presence of the chiral cationic ruthenium diamine catalyst (<italic>R</italic>, <italic>R</italic>)‐<bold>1</bold> (Tf=trifluoromethanesulfonyl, Ts=4‐toluenesulfonyl). Both chiral 1, 2, 3, 4‐tetrahydro‐ and 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10‐octahydro‐1, 10‐ phenanthroline derivatives could be obtained in high yields with excellent enantio‐ and diastereoselectivity.<boxed-text content-type="graphic" position="anchor" orientation="portrait"><graphic position="anchor" mimetype="image" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgg26mfwc57" orientation="portrait" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" /></boxed-text></p> </abstract>
