Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="main"> <title>ABSTRACT</title> <p>In this work, a dual‐wavelength fiber laser with single‐longitudinal‐mode (SLM) characteristics is proposed and demonstrated. The system uses a 1‐m long highly doped erbium doped fiber (EDF) as the primary gain medium while a 1533‐nm fiber Bragg grating acts as a wavelength selection mechanism. Unpumped EDFs are used to suppress side‐modes and to give SLM characteristics in the output wavelengths. A modulator, operating at 130.0 KHz generates the dual‐wavelength output at 1532.89 and 1533.23 nm with a spacing of 29.3 GHz. Radio frequency spectrum analyzer (RFSA) measurements indicate no spiking at the lower frequencies, thus confirming the SLM nature of the individual wavelengths.
