- <abstract abstract-type="graphical" xml:lang="en" id="lpor201200123-abs-0001"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p>Orthorhombic PbCO<sub>3</sub>, known as natural crystal cerussite, is presented as a new Stimulated Raman Scattering (SRS)‐active crystal. With picosecond laser pumping high‐order Raman‐induced <italic>χ</italic><sup>(3)</sup> generation is observed. All registered Stokes and anti‐Stokes sidebands in the visible and near‐IR are identified and attributed to the SRS‐promoting phonon mode A<sub>1g</sub> of the carbonate group, with <italic>ω<sub>SRS</sub></italic> ≈ 1054 cm<sup>−1</sup>. The first Stokes steady‐state Raman gain coefficient in the visible spectral range is estimated as well to a value not less than 4.6 cm·GW<sup>−1</sup>. <boxed-text content-type="graphic" position="anchor" orientation="portrait"><graphic position="anchor" mimetype="image" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgg1zvj0b16" orientation="portrait" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" /></boxed-text></p> </abstract>
