<abstract abstract-type="main"> <title>Abstract</title> <p> <table-wrap position="anchor" orientation="portrait"> <label> <x xml:space="preserve">Table </x> </label> <table border="1"> <colgroup span="1"> <col align="left" span="1" /> </colgroup> <tbody> <tr> <td align="left" rowspan="1" colspan="1">Preclinical Research</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> </table-wrap> </p> <p>The antileishmanial activity of compounds inspired by naphthoquinone secondary metabolites from <italic>Bignoniaceae</italic> is presented. Three structural series of compounds from a common biosynthetic pathway were evaluated against <italic>Leishmania major</italic>. Compound (<bold>15</bold>), an analog of the natural product pinnatal, was more active than amphotericin B against <italic>L. major</italic>. When tested against <italic>L. (Viannia) braziliensis</italic> and <italic>L. infantum</italic>, compound <bold>15</bold> showed similar activity to amphotericin B.</p> </abstract>
