Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="main" xml:lang="en"> <title>Abstract</title> <p>One new carbazole alkaloid, excavatine A (<bold>1</bold>), and two additional new alkaloids, excavatine B (<bold>2</bold>) and excavatine C (<bold>3</bold>), were isolated from the stems and leaves of <italic>Clausena excavata</italic><sc>Burm</sc>.f. (Rutaceae). Their structures were determined on the basis of detailed spectroscopic analyses, especially 2D‐NMR and HR‐EI‐MS data. Compounds <bold>1</bold>–<bold>3</bold> were tested for their cytotoxic activities against A549, HeLa, and BGC‐823 cancer cell lines, and for their antimicrobial activities against <italic>Candida albicans</italic> and <italic>Staphylococcus aureus.</italic> Only <bold>1</bold> exhibited cytotoxicity against A549 and HeLa cell lines with the <italic>IC</italic>₅₀ values of 5.25 and 1.91 μg/ml, respectively.</p> </abstract>
