Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="main" xml:lang="en"> <title>Abstract</title> <p>Four new maleimide derivatives, antrocinnamomins E–H (<bold>1</bold>–<bold>4</bold>, resp.), together with (3<italic>S</italic>, 4<italic>R</italic>)‐1‐hydroxy‐3‐(4‐hydroxyphenyl)‐4‐(2‐methylpropyl)pyrrolidine‐2, 5‐dione (<bold>5</bold>) and ergosterol were isolated from the mycelia of <italic>Antrodia cinnamomea</italic> BCRC 36799. The structures were elucidated by 1D‐ and 2D‐NMR spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry. Compounds <bold>1</bold>–<bold>5</bold> were evaluated for their inhibitory effects on nitric oxide (NO) production by macrophages. Compounds <bold>2</bold> and <bold>4</bold> showed stronger inhibition of NO production than the positive control quercetin.</p> </abstract>
