Abstract

<abstract> <title>Abstract</title> <p> <italic>Liriomyza huidobrensis, L. trifolii</italic> and <italic>L. sativae</italic> (Diptera: Agromyzidae) are serious horticultural pests. The three species are very similar and difficult to discriminate from each other. In this study, we report the mitochondrial genome of <italic>L. huidobrensis</italic> and compare with <italic>L. trifolii</italic> and <italic>L. sativae</italic>. The mitochondrial genome of <italic>L. huidobrensis</italic> is 16, 239 bp long, and it contains 37 genes and one A + T-rich region as do the sequenced <italic>liriomyza</italic> species. The sequence and structure of H51-H100 region in srRNA is significantly different from that of <italic>L. trifolii</italic> and <italic>L. sativae.</italic> The greatest sequence differences among the three leafminers are located in the region including ND2, ND3, ND6, ATP6, ATP8, CYTb and A+T region, which can be considered as candidate regions for molecular identification or SNP markers.</p> </abstract>
