<abstract abstract-type="main" xml:lang="en"> <title>Abstract</title> <p>Polycrystalline Ca<sub>3</sub>Mn<sup>III</sup><sub>2</sub>WO<sub>9</sub> (I) and Ca<sub>3</sub>Mn<sup>III/IV</sup><sub>2</sub>NbO<sub>9</sub> (II) are prepared by calcination in air of stoichiometric mixtures of CaCO<sub>3</sub>, MnCO<sub>3</sub>, and WO<sub>3</sub> (or Nb<sub>2</sub>O<sub>5</sub>) (Pt crucible, 800 °C, 12 h).</p> </abstract>
