Abstract

<abstract> <title>Abstract</title> <p>We sequenced 16, 971 bp of the linear mitochondrial DNA of the moon jellyfish <italic>Aurelia</italic> sp. nov. and characterized it by comparing with <italic>Aurelia aurita</italic>. They had 13 protein-coding genes (<italic>PCG</italic>s), <italic>16S rRNA</italic> and <italic>12S rRNA</italic> with three <italic>tRNA</italic>s (<italic>tRNA-Leu, tRNA-Ser(TGA), tRNA-Met</italic>). Both have another two <italic>PCG</italic>s, <italic>orf969</italic> and <italic>orf324</italic> with telomeres at both ends. After comparison of <italic>Aurelia</italic> sp. nov. with <italic>Aurelia aurita</italic>, we found low-protein similarity of <italic>orf969</italic> (59%) and <italic>orf324</italic> (75%), respectively, while the other 13 <italic>PCG</italic>s showed 80% to 98% protein similarities.</p> </abstract>
