- <abstract abstract-type="main"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p>A series of half‐sandwich ruthenium(II) arene complexes [(<italic>η</italic><sup>6</sup>‐<italic>p</italic>‐cymene)Ru<sup>II</sup>(R‐BzTSC)Cl]Cl <xref ref-type="link" rid="aoc2977-fig-0001">1</xref><xref ref-type="link" rid="aoc2977-fig-0001">1</xref><xref ref-type="link" rid="aoc2977-fig-0001">1</xref> (BzTSC = benzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone and R = H, CH<sub>3</sub> and C<sub>6</sub>H<sub>5</sub>) have been synthesized and characterized by IR, <sup>1</sup>H NMR, UV‐visible, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry and elemental analysis. The single‐crystal structures of <xref ref-type="link" rid="aoc2977-fig-0001">1</xref> and <xref ref-type="link" rid="aoc2977-fig-0001">1</xref> have been determined. The molecular orbitals and electronic absorption spectra of the compounds have been calculated using the DFT and TDDFT methods. The <italic>in vitro</italic> antiproliferative activities of these complexes have been evaluated against four human cancer cell lines (CNE, H292, SKBR3 and Hey1‐B), and <xref ref-type="link" rid="aoc2977-fig-0001">1</xref> is proved to be the most efficient inhibitor, with IC<sub>50</sub> values of 20, 31, 10 and 34 μ<sc>m</sc>, respectively.
