- <abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en" id="bjd12325-abs-0002"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p> <bold>What's already known about this topic?</bold> </p> <p> <list id="bjd12325-list-0001" list-type="bullet"> <list-item> <p>Noncultured epidermal cell suspension (NCES) is emerging as the first line of surgical management of stable vitiligo.</p> </list-item> <list-item> <p>Recently, noncultured extracted hair follicle outer root sheath cell suspension (NCORSHFS) has been shown to be effective in surgical treatment of vitiligo.</p> </list-item> <list-item> <p>As the hair follicle is an important reservoir of melanocytes and their precursor cells, this seems to be an important technique of replenishing melanocytes to depigmented patches.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> <p> <bold>What does this study add?</bold> </p> <p> <list id="bjd12325-list-0002" list-type="bullet"> <list-item> <p>This is the first randomized study to compare two cellular techniques of surgical management of vitiligo.</p> </list-item> <list-item> <p>We have shown that both NCES and NCORSHFS are safe and effective techniques with comparable efficacy.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </abstract>
