<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en" id="bjd12255-abs-0002"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p> <bold>What's already known about this topic?</bold> </p> <p> <list id="bjd12255-list-0001" list-type="bullet"> <list-item> <p>Localized scleroderma (morphoea) in childhood can cause permanent functional disability and disfigurement.</p> </list-item> <list-item> <p>Infrared thermography and single‐point laser Doppler flowmetry have been investigated as tools to evaluate skin inflammation in morphoea in previous studies.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> <p> <bold>What does this study add?</bold> </p> <p> <list id="bjd12255-list-0002" list-type="bullet"> <list-item> <p>Our study suggests that negative laser Doppler imaging (LDI) is highly predictive of a good clinical outcome. Positive LDI not only suggests active disease but may also indicate silent disease and act as a predictive marker.</p> </list-item> <list-item> <p>LDI can be used to monitor disease activity and may help to identify patients who will benefit from early intervention with systemic therapy.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </abstract>
