- <abstract> <title>Abstract</title> <p> <italic>Context</italic>: The diethyl ether extract of the stems of <italic>Schisandra pubescens</italic> Hemsl. et Wils. (Schisandraceae) was found to exhibit cytotoxic activity <italic>in vitro</italic>. However, investigations of the bioactive constituents of this plant have been very limited.</p> <p> <italic>Objective</italic>: Elucidation of the cytotoxic constituents of <italic>S. pubescens</italic> was performed.</p> <p> <italic>Methods</italic>: Repeated silica gel column chromatography and preparative TLC were used for the chemical investigation of the diethyl ether extract of <italic>S. pubescens</italic> stems. All isolates were evaluated for their <italic>in vitro</italic> cytotoxicity against A549, PC-3, KB and KBvin human cancer cell lines.</p> <p> <italic>Results</italic>: Nine known compounds were obtained, including four lignans, epischisandrone (<bold>1</bold>), tigloylgomisin P (<bold>2</bold>), cagayanone (<bold>3</bold>) and (−)-gomisin L<sub>2</sub> (<bold>4</bold>), together with five triterpenoids, micranoic acid B (<bold>5</bold>), lancifodilactone H (<bold>6</bold>), coccinic acid (<bold>7</bold>), schisanlactone B (<bold>8</bold>) and anwuweizonic acid (<bold>9</bold>). Compounds <bold>2</bold>–<bold>6</bold> and <bold>8</bold> showed moderate to marginal cytotoxicity, with GI<sub>50</sub> values of 11.83–35.65 μM.</p> <p> <italic>Conclusion</italic>: The isolation of <bold>1</bold>–<bold>9</bold> from<abstract> <title>Abstract</title> <p> <italic>Context</italic>: The diethyl ether extract of the stems of <italic>Schisandra pubescens</italic> Hemsl. et Wils.
