<abstract abstract-type="graphical" id="ejn12057-abs-0002"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p>Amygdala and hippocampal tissue oxygen (T_O2) signals were recorded from freely‐moving rats during discriminative Pavlovian fear conditioning. T_O2 signals provide a close surrogate for the BOLD‐fMRI signal. T_O2 signals in both regions discriminated between conditioned aversive (CS+) and neutral (CS−) cues.
