- <abstract abstract-type="main"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p> <italic>This article presents a theory of health‐related family quality of life (HR‐FQoL) for families coping with illnesses that may result in long‐term survivorship (e.g., breast cancer). This theory draws on existing theoretical and empirical work to synthesize diverse literatures. Specifically, the theory of HR‐FQoL is intended to elucidate the overlap between 2 approaches to understanding quality of life as it relates to illness: family quality of life and health‐related quality of life The results is a synthesized conceptualization of health‐related family quality of life. The conclusion offers possible applications of the HR‐FQoL theory to families experiencing breast cancer and other illness and chronic conditions</italic>.</p> </abstract>
